A classic style can either be a facsimile of the bygone decade or an interpretation of the magic that the era beheld. It can be either boring and predictable or modernised and characteristic.
In the August issue of British Vogue, Kate Moss, photographer Mario Testino and stylist Lucinda Chambers tell a story that celebrates the aura of the past while dictating trends for the upcoming season.
Contrary to the palpable predictions, British Vogue chose not to put Moss on the cover of their yet-to-be-released September issue, considering this would have been her hat trick appearance. But Moss isn’t foreign to the pages of Vogue and Testino’s camera lens. In this editorial, she takes her modelling adeptness to a new level through an archetypical definition of timeless glamour.
With the juxtaposition of forties hourglass silhouette and sixties photography, this photo shoot is all about simple but powerful styling. The bubble-sleeves and padded shoulders team up to give a grown-up silhouette, while the neckline gets a boost with the precision cut collar. The waist is trimmer and even more accentuated than before with furling peplum of the skirt. The liquid silk fabric helps in achieving fluidity of this discreet ensemble, while the subtle fur accessories make it fitting for fall.
Even though the plunging neckline makes an appearance, the knee-covering midi length skirts are enough to clasp Moss’ ladylike elegance together. But this unforgiving muse still manages to strategically flicker her daring and confident traits in the shots. The soft curls, shiraz-tinted lips and bold accessories are clever reminders of the retro-meets-contemporary notion.
